NAIFA - MANSFIELD
May 14, 2010 – ROADHOUSE RESTAURANT
ONTARIO, OHIO
President, Alan Hendricks:
As I begin to write my last article for the May bulletin, it’s hard to believe that my term as your president is coming to a close. It’s been an exciting year and a year that has had some challenges. We faced a dues increase, increased scrutiny from the federal government and healthcare reform. I believe we have weathered the storm, so to speak. There still is plenty of work to be done on a local basis, one of which is to increase our membership. Naifa is still very active with all the various issues that still threaten our livelihoods. Your continued belief in Naifa and for what it represents is not taken lightly. We value each and every one of you as a member of our association.
Many of you continue to take advantage of the live CE classes we conduct, which definitely helps our treasury. In fact, at our April 14th LTC refresher class we had 40 people in attendance. I am extremely pleased as to the turnout for these classes. We have committed to conducting 4 more CE classes in the upcoming months. On August 18th, we will be conducting another 4 Hr. LTC Partnership refresher class. There were many people who took the 8 Hr. class in 2008 that still need to take the 4 Hr. class. In October we will have another Super CE Day (8 Hours). The date for that event is scheduled for Oct. 20th. We have also scheduled another Super CE day (8 Hr) for Dec. 7th. Finally we have tentatively scheduled an 8 Hr. LTC Partnership class for Dec. 15th. Hopefully there are still some people who want to sell LTC, and have not taken the initial 8 hours.
Mark your calendars for Oct. 14th, as this will be the date for our regular monthly meeting. Yes, I realize that it’s not the second Friday of the month. We changed the date since the Director of the Ohio Dept. of Insurance, Mary Jo Hudson, could only be a guest speaker on that date. I encourage every one
to attend this session, as she has some great insight about the healthcare reform bill and how the State of Ohio is going to respond. Plus, she will also be outlining in detail the new CE requirements starting in 2011 for licensing. This should be an exciting meeting.
Don’t forget that at our May 14th meeting we will be having Amanda Brewton from Aetna as our guest speaker. She is the under 65 individual healthcare representative and I’m sure she also has some valuable information we can all use to help grow our book of business.
I would also like to thank Donna Sheaffer for her patience and understanding during the past year. She took over for Louise and has really been an asset for our association. I couldn’t have done it without her support and help. I thank all of you that helped to make my year as president uneventful and truly a pleasure.
